"It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society".
-the truth
What if I told you that the author of our modern understanding of mental health wasn't Freud or Jung. What if I told you it was George Orwell. That the entire conversation was one of doublespeak. The upside down. Gaslighting. An unreliable narrator starting from very thin ice and very quickly finding their unreliable ass at the bottom of the lake. We need to come up for some air.
And fast.
For me, it begins with a very simple and obvious and yet unanswered question. What is the end goal?
Of therapy? Of the revolution of this pharmacology but not that pharmacology? Of anything at all in the year 2021?
Where is this all heading? What will 2084 look like? 2034? We are trapped so far behind dealing with loops of trauma both within and without that no one seems to be looking even a milisecond ahead. To be thinking of what our minds will need to look like then. Not what they needed to look like yesterday.
What I see when I look at the globe is trauma. I see that bridge of consciousness where the awareness of the trauma becomes too much to ignore. As a result of the inability to dissociate or deploy cognitive dissonance, the body moves from a state of active trauma into the infancy of actual healing. Into a state of truth.
And the truth is ugly. And powerful beyond imagination.
Pain.
Anger.
Sadness.
Acceptance.
Release.
Growth.
Change.
We have a long way to go to see actual change. The pain of beginning is overwhelming. To begin we must define the trauma. The way I see my own struggle is the way I see the global struggle. A fight for identity.
