Cleanse by Fire

I'm sitting back and watching. Not quietly, but with purpose and with an apprehensive, simultaneous and sometimes overwhelming of dread co-mingled with unmitigated hope. I can't believe I'm still shocked, but I'm still shocked. I've been calling the fox news addicted republican party a cult for a decade at least. I've been calling them fascists even longer. I've never been so disappointed to be so right. It's fucking terrifying. It can't be overstated how much danger we are in. It also can't be overstated how that danger doesn't magically disappear once Trump is out of the White House. He's like the moon eclipsing the sun of our root problems. It very well could get more violent when he's gone. We won't have a maniac's hands on the levers of power, but we more than likely will have an armed "resistance" of Timothy McVeigh type terrorists running wild in urban and rural America. That Trump is president makes their anti-government views nonsensical and tragically comic. When a democrat is president and they are still emboldened by this four year fascist binge those same views will be deadly and divisive in ways I'm not sure anyone is ready for. The Trumpist movement may lose electoral relevance but they are going to be causing massive problems for a long, long time to come. Imagine what the children of these lunatics will look like in 15 years.

That's the dread.

The hope is stronger. It certainly doesn't seem that way. The people who used to call themselves the silent majority are now the loud and insane minority. Believe that. These fucking losers and their bullshit hypocrisy are played out and they know it. That's why they have no ability to defend or define their actions. They just lie. It's fucking pathetic. The hope exists in the rest of us. Not right/left, good/bad. I'm hard on republicans because no one has to be one. Its a choice. If a single person gets the proper message, it's worth it. And I notice people getting the message. I'm not saying it has anything to do with me, I'm just saying I see different people saying different things and engaging in different ways. That's progress. There is never going to be a cleansing by fire where all the confusion is burned away and only awareness remains. It's more like chipping a sculpture of truth out a rock of confusion. Chip away a piece over here, a piece over there. Eventually the illusion of right/left politics is chipped away and only what is true and what is false is left. We do that together. Information is now a web. We share truth and lies with the same speed and it can either illuminate it's web or cover it's web in ignorance. We all are part of it. I see hope everywhere in all the webs I am privy to. There is less ignorance than there was a month ago. Let's continue to believe in our ability to change the world by the changing the eyes with which we view it. The path to enlightenment is to know oneself. This is the perfect time to accept that challenge and hope for something better.
